I started out using Surgi-wax to do a Brazillian style wax. I got about 2 waxes out of it, and it did a great job, but I thought it was bit expensive considering shipping and handling. So, I bought Sally Hansen’s bikini wax kit at my local store. It’s soft wax…and was a painful nightmare! It was messy, and didn’t remove the hair efficiently, which meant redoing a lot of areas. The wax stuck to everything and was a HUGE mess! I quit half way thru and just shaved. Plus, I was left with swollen, red welts for a week. THUS, I HIGHLY recommend Surgi-wax! It’s worth the money, and it works. The hard wax is so much easier to deal with. It takes out the hair in one yank, which means less pain. It gets 99% of the hair and leaves skin soft and smooth for at least 3 weeks (for me anyway). The wax stays pliable for about 10 minutes, and you do have to make repeat trips, but that is better than dealing with the insane stickiness of soft wax. The oil that comes with the kit is great to use before and after waxing. Once you’ve used hard wax you’ll never go back to soft waxing with cloth strips! Surgi-wax is a great product.

This stuff doesn’t completely remove every piece of hair but it’s cheap (compared to a $80 session at a salon) and does the job well. I highly recommend it! I found this way better than shaving since 1 day after shaving I’d get stubble and itch. YES the first few times are painful, but as your hair thins out from waxing, it shouldn’t be as painful after. Therefore, do this every month to prevent your hair from grown back thick. One complaint I have is that the microwave directions weren’t very accurate. They say to microwave the wax for no more than a minute but with my 1100 watt microwave, I had to microwave for more than 2 minutes before the wax was spreadable. I get 2 waxes out of one jar. This works well on armpits, too.

    A few tips:

Definitely apply the oil before you wax. This is to make sure you pull on only the hair and not your skin since without oil the wax will stick to your skin.

Look away when you pull. This helped me to gather strength because if I look at it then I chicken out, and I end up tugging on the hair which makes it more painful.

For females, wax 2 weeks after you period. I heard this is when your skin is not so sensitive so it’s less painful.

This product works perfectly if you grow your hair out. Does not work so well on short hair. I highly recommend using a lot of oil. It makes the whole process just a little bit easier, and does not decrease the effectiveness of this product.

I actually use this on my legs, because the formula is superior to the regular Surgi-Wax. This wax seems to hit the sweet spot of cost, pliability, and grip. Unlike Sally Hansen, it doesn’t become brittle as soon as it is cool enough to touch. Unlike Gigi, it doesn’t break the bank. The oil seems like it should make the wax slip off the hair, but thankfully, it seems to help mostly with not sticking little extra bits to the skin. I have gorilla-like amounts of leg hair, and can just barely do my legs in 2 boxes (I prefer to use 3), so if you are just waxing your “Brazilian” area, 1 box should last you several applications.

Here’s a helpful tip: for sensitive areas, applying two or three coats of Oragel (or a generic equivalent) 20% lidocaine gel as a numbing agent two minutes before the wax works wonders for lessening the pain. I wouldn’t be able to do my bikini line otherwise.

I love this product! I started using it in August of ’09 and have repurchased it many times. I had never waxed any part of my body before using this and took a big risk going with a Brazilian my first time out. It can be messy, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be a pro in no time.

Here are some key tips based on my experience:

    1) Make sure the wax is heated until it’s thin enough to get all the way down to the skin. If it’s too thick and sits on top of your hair, it’s going to hurt when you pull it off. Warning though, it will be hot when you apply it. Find the right temperature that is comfortable for you, but is thin enough to apply down to the skin level. For me personally, I like it very liquidy/thin.

    2) Pull it off quickly! Don’t be tentative, if you go fast it won’t hurt at all.

    3) Buy a mug warmer to keep it heated. I bought mine from Fry’s Electronics for about $10. This is a must in my opinion. Before I bought the warmer, I had to keep going back to my microwave to reheat the wax.

    4) Make sure you use the oil and re-apply if you need to. Occasionally I’ll have to go over the same area more than once and it’s a good idea to re-apply oil there to make sure the wax doesn’t stick.

    My method:

I sit on a towel and use a lighted mirror with magnification. This really helps to see what I’m doing. I also use a tweezer to get any stray hairs that may not have been picked up by the wax. I follow up with tea tree oil which I believe helps prevent ingrown hairs. I’ve heard that lotion/moisturizer with salicylic acid also prevents ingrown hairs, but I personally haven’t tried this yet.

Although I’m not a hairy person (I’m Asian) my hair seems to grow out fairly quickly. I hate stubble, so I end up waxing once every week. One container/tub lasts me about 5-6 waxes. I buy the 3-pack and I’m on the Amazon subscription plan so it’s even cheaper. This is the cheapest price around. Good luck!

This might be the same stuff that major brand name salons use aka. this is the best wax you could possibly buy and you could use it on anything, just dont use it on your face if you have very sensitive skin. the trick to using this is do things slow and neatly when you first start and get comfortable using it. you should not have any wax left over to pick off your nails or skin if you do it this way. your hair should be 1/4 inch long to do this (grain of rice). If this is the first time you are doing a bikini wax go to a professional the first time and make sure they use hard stripless wax just like this one. clean your skin with mild soap and warm (never hot water before or after—take a shower if you must) and make sure you are completely dry. apply either baby oil (very little) OR baby powder (and brush off excess) to your skin and start by dipping the wooden spatula and lift it and swirl it around, DO NOT thin it out, you need a layer about 1-2 mm thick. it should be about 2incesx4inches. wait about 10-20 seconds and lightly tap it with your finger at the thickest point, if it is still gooey and lifts up let it set just a little longer, press the wax down with your palm, “flick” the bottom of the strip hold your skin taught (from the top) and pull quickly going in the opposite direction of your hair growth (from the bottom). quickly apply pressure to that spot for a few seconds. repeat… once you get the hang of it, you will be able to use slightly thinner strips but beware if you thin it out too much or let it try to much it will become brittle and will hurt to remove it and you will be left with a mess. you need to pull it off when it is still SOFT just not liquidy. when you are finished, use a damp warm/hot towel to wipe down your skin and then follow with a cold towel to close your pores. you could apply No Bump or something to prevent ingrown hairs and keep your skin soft. Remember!!! If you don’t get all of the wax of or leave even the smallest drop on your skin you should remove it right away instead of waiting until you finish the whole area. it will be harder to take off if you wait and will be uncomfortable when you get dressed (fibers will stick and you will have dark little blotches). DO NOT take a hot shower or go swimming for at least 4 hours later, no matter what kind of skin you have!!! Use very mild soap and luke warm water if you must. You could use an oil or lotion that has azulene to calm your skin and use No bump or Tend Skin (the best) to prevent ingrown hairs. if you are going to wax your arm pits you might need a friend to help hold your skin taught or pull (it hurts much less when you hold your skin taught). I hope this helps!!

I just recieved this today with the warmer I bought and didn’t even hesitate to start heating it up. I never must have given much thought to what I was about to do – a self-brazilian wax- but one hour later I was completely hair free. This stuff worked SO awesome. I have been getting professionally waxed at the salon for a year now, and doing it myself was the best decision ever. I did a much better job than any professional has done, and I even waxed one of my friends today, too.

The good thing about hard wax is that it hurts MUCH MUCH less than sugar sticky type wax with strips. It doesn’t pull off any of your skin and gets the hair right down to the follicle without ripping it at the skin like strip-waxing does.

Buy this stuff. Really. Make sure you get a warmer and spatulas too, or else you will be S.O.L.

I bought this item after reading the reviews. It is a good item but needs a lot of patience while using.

    Drawback’s:

    1) Since this is used without a strip, the wax layer that u apply on the skin should be thick enough to be pulled. if the layer applied is thin, the wax will not pull off the body and will remain stuck there…..and as per the instructions, it requires a wax pull off lotion which is not supplied with the box. Since i was using it for the first time, i had a rough time removing the wax from my body as i wasnt aware of the thickness of the wax to be required to be pulled.

    2) The wax dries off fast while applying, so could do it in small patches which took a lot of time to complete.

The only good thing about this wax is that while pulling the layer, it doesn’t hurt much.

So if you plan to buy this one, don buy it alone. Buy it with the set that has the lotion and spatulas (this is very much required because if u use ur knife…u will just have to throw that).

After the debacle with the GiGi creme wax, I must say that the GiGi Brazillian body hard wax is a wonderfull wax. This didn’t hurt half as much as at the salon, no skin pulled, done very thorough by myself. The wax that I spilled dried fast and was easy to pick up. The wax goes on easy, dries fast, and pulls off amazingly smooth. What a great way to get quality at a bargain price.

I’ve tried all different kinds of wax and the GIGI Hard Wax is by far the best. The trick is to apply a thick layer and never let the wax get too hot. So I’d suggest warming it up on the low setting even if it takes longer. Also, dont let the wax get too dry on the skin, because then it becomes brittle and hard to pull off.
